Samson’s epic story is told in the Biblical book of Judges (chapters 13-16.) He was foretold by the Angel of the Lord (Christophany) to his barren parents. His name means “like the sun.” The positive amazing similarities between him and you, Christian, might surprise you. Take a look at the Table 1 below for 5 similarities between you and Samson:

TraitSamsonChristians
1. LightThen the woman gave birth to a son and named him Samson;… (Judges 13:24).
Samson means ‘sun.’
“You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden; nor does anyone light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on the lampstand, and it gives light to all who are in the house.  Let your light shine before men in such a way that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father who is in heaven
(Matthew 5:14-16).
2. PromisedThe angel of the Lord appeared to her [Samson’s mother] and said, “You are barren and childless, but you are going to become pregnant and give birth to a son
(Judges 13:3).
Now you, brothers and sisters, like Isaac, are children of promise
(Galatians 4:28).
3. Set apartNow see to it that you drink no wine or other fermented drink and that you do not eat anything unclean. You will become pregnant and have a son whose head is never to be touched by a razor because the boy is to be a Nazirite
(Judges 13:4, 5a).
Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart
(Jeremiah 1:5a).
Separate yourselves from them, says the LORD. Don’t touch their filthy things, and I will welcome you
(2 Corinthians 2:17).
4. Called and anointed for service to GodYou will become pregnant and have a son whose head is never to be touched by a razor because the boy is to be a Nazirite, dedicated to God from the womb. He will take the lead in delivering Israel from the hands of the Philistines
(Judges 13:5).
And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.
(Romans 8:28).
For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do (Ephesians 2:10).
5. Spirit -filled(in the Old Testament, the Holy Spirit came and went from individuals) The Spirit of the Lord came powerfully upon him
(Judges 14:6a).
Then the Spirit of the Lord came powerfully upon him
(Judges 14:19a).
(Since Jesus’s ascension, the Holy Spirit dwells in believers) You will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you
(Acts 1:8a).
Don’t you realize that all of you together are the temple of God and that the Spirit of God lives in you?
 (1 Corinthians 3:16).
