A Portrait of 42

For many this is a lifetime; for others even more.

I am grateful whether this be my last year or I make 84.

I’ve had your touch since conception, known your voice all my days,

As you strategically rear me in your lavish grace.

You shielded me through fetal alcohol, through turmoil, inattention.

And through it all you lit my path with divine intention.

For a RICH family legacy – priceless parents, siblings six;

A childhood rich in simple joys, I’m constantly transfixed.

Little would I have known your grand plans for an awkward little brown girl,

blessings untold through joys and hurts, you are using to make a pearl.

So whether my last, or 42 more, I’m here in the shadow of your wing;

Nowhere else to be, nothing else to do, than to a loving Master cling.
